TinyAlarm For Mac Manual

TinyAlarm is a tiny alarm clock for your menu bar. It will play your chosen sound/music at some time in the near future. All of the configuration is done using the status menu item.

TinyAlarm is good for when you’re gaming or programming, but still have to get to class. It will also help you avoid missing your bus, or burning your pizza, or showing up late for meetings.

TinyAlarm requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

TinyAlarm is shareware. After 30 days of trying it out please purchase the software to support its continuing evolution. Purchase here to receive a license key.

Open TinyAlarm to see the icon in the menubar. Click this icon to reveal the drop-down menu.

Most of the functionality of TinyAlarm is accessed from this menu. Choose ‘Create alarm’ to see the alarm creation dialog.

Give your alarm a good name. Because TinyAlarm remembers your alarms you can choose it again in the future. This name shows up when the alarm goes off and can be spoken by the speech synthesizer.

Choose the radio button to either set the number of minutes/hours or to set the time/date. Click the little calendar icon to set the time/date visually with a clock and calendar.

Alarms can be set to:

  • Go off in minutes or hours
  • Go off each day at a certain time
  • Go off on a particular day once

To add a sound alert to an alarm choose to ‘Play sound’ and/or ‘Speak alarm name’.

Sound options include:

  1. Record Sound - Record your own alarm sound
  2. System Sounds - Choose from regular system sounds
  3. Added Music/Sounds - Use your own sound files
  4. iMovie Sounds - If iMovie is installed, access its sound library

When the alarm goes off, you can click ‘Snooze’ to reset the alarm to a short time in the future. The default snooze time is set in the create alarm dialog.

Take 5 reminds you to take regular breaks. This feature is inspired by the Pomodoro Technique and helps prevent the health issues associated with prolonged sitting.

How it works:

  • Set the time between breaks
  • Set the duration of breaks
  • Choose sounds for break start and end
  • Get up and move around during breaks

The default setting follows the Pomodoro Technique: 25 minutes of focused work followed by a 5-minute break.

  • Check for updates - See if there’s a new version available
  • Registration - Enter your license key after purchase
  • Launch at Startup - Automatically start TinyAlarm when you login

TinyAlarm can be tried for 30 days. After that, please consider purchasing to support continued development.

Registered users receive:

  • Removal of reminder dialogs
  • Free upgrades throughout the year
  • Email tech support
  • Support for continued development
