Welcome to iClock! This guide will help you understand the main components and get started quickly.

iClock has four major visible components:

Shows local time in the menu bar with a dropdown menu containing:

  • World time zones - Multiple cities with their local times
  • Quick settings - Access to preferences and features
  • System information - IP addresses, system stats
  • Productivity tools - Take 5, alarms, timers

The central control panel for all iClock settings:

  • Time display options - Formats, colors, fonts
  • Menu items - What appears in the time menu
  • Floating clocks - Desktop clock configuration
  • Alarms & timers - Scheduling and notification settings
  • Advanced features - Chimes, automation, shortcuts

Shows the date in the menu bar which reveals:

  • TinyCal - Compact calendar with events
  • BigCal - Large, customizable calendar
  • Calendar integration - Apple Calendar and Google Calendar
  • Date calculations - Date difference calculator

Displays running applications with options for:

  • Active applications - Currently running apps
  • Recent applications - Recently used apps
  • System preferences - Quick access to control panels
  • Icon-only display - Space-saving app icons
  1. Click on iClock’s time in the menu bar
  2. Select “Preferences
” from the dropdown menu

You can also press Command+, when iClock is the active application.

The preferences panel organizes all settings on the left sidebar:

iClock Section:

  • About - App information and credits
  • Register - License key entry for purchased versions
  • General - Startup options and basic settings

Time Section:

  • Menu - Time display format and appearance
  • Menu Items - What appears in the time dropdown
  • Floating Clocks - Desktop world clocks
  • Chimes - Hourly sounds and voice announcements
  • Take 5 - Break reminders and Pomodoro timer
  • Alarms - Multiple alarm settings
  • Countdown Timer - Event countdown displays
  • Global Scheduler - Multi-timezone meeting planner
  • Stopwatch - Precision timing tool
  • Set Timezone - Quick access to system timezone
  • Light/Dark Mode - Automatic appearance switching

Date Section:

  • Menu - Date format and display options
  • Menu Calendar - TinyCal and BigCal settings
  • Date Difference Calculator - Calculate time between dates

Applications Section:

  • Menu - Application switcher configuration
  • Laptop Alarm - Security alert for power disconnection

Essential Settings to Configure:

  1. Time Format (Time:Menu)

    • Choose from preset formats or create custom
    • Add time zones for locations you care about
    • Set colors and fonts that match your style
  2. Date Display (Date:Menu)

    • Select your preferred date format
    • Choose calendar type (TinyCal recommended)
    • Connect Apple or Google Calendar
  3. Startup Behavior (iClock:General)

    • Enable “Always launch iClock at startup”
    • Configure automatic update checking
  1. Go to Time:Menu Items
  2. Click “Click to view, add, edit, delete cities”
  3. Add cities you frequently work with
  4. Drag to reorder cities in your preferred sequence
  5. Check columns to show in menu (M) or floating clocks (F)
  1. Go to Time:Floating Clocks
  2. Enable “Show/Hide Floating Clocks”
  3. Choose digital or analog clock faces
  4. Select cities to display as floating clocks
  5. Toggle on/off from the time menu when needed
  1. Go to Time:Take 5
  2. Enable “Add Take 5 to Time Menu”
  3. Set break interval (recommended: 30 minutes)
  4. Set break duration (recommended: 5 minutes)
  5. Choose notification sounds for break start/end
  1. Go to Date:Menu Calendar
  2. Select TinyCal (recommended for most users)
  3. Choose Apple or Google Calendar
  4. Grant calendar permissions when prompted
  5. See events displayed in the calendar dropdown

Create your own time display format:

  1. Go to Time:Menu
  2. Click “Create custom format”
  3. Drag blue pills (Time Zone, AM/PM, etc.) to the Custom field
  4. Choose options from dropdown triangles
  5. Add punctuation between elements as desired
  6. Click “Add Custom Time Format”
  • Command+Click time/date to move in menu bar
  • Command+, to open preferences (when iClock is active)
  • Space to toggle between measurement modes (in some tools)
  • Command+drag iClock elements to reposition
  • Use analog Apple clock to save space
  • Hide country names in world time display for cleaner look
  • Add team locations to time zones
  • Use floating clocks for key time zones
  • Set Take 5 reminders for regular breaks
  • Global scheduler for meeting planning
  • Add destination cities before trips
  • Use countdown timer for departure dates
  • Keep home timezone visible alongside local
  • Calendar integration for itinerary management
  • Pomodoro technique with Take 5 timer
  • Chimes for time awareness
  • Alarms for important deadlines
  • Stopwatch for task timing

Each preference panel includes:

  • Tooltips explaining settings
  • Real-time previews of format changes
  • Reset options to return to defaults
